The Voyage Sets Sail As Rehearsals Begin

Posted by: Chris Brown on

Rehearsals began this week for The Voyage, the spectacular outdoor performance celebrating the opening event of the London 2012 Festival, in Birmingham.  The Voyage is a major cultural project set on an enormous passenger liner which will be built in Birmingham’s Victoria Square. Over 140 dancers, singers and aerialists will be telling the story of the liner as it travels from continent to continent, a powerful reminder of the significance of migration in Birmingham’s history.

With an elaborate light and sound show, high wire rigging and extraordinary acrobatic, The Voyage is a story that explores the courage and imagination that prompts us to embark on journeys in pursuit of our dreams.

Rehearsals for The Voyage are already well underway at the UK’s leading outdoor dance company Motionhouse. Based in Leamington Spa, Motionhouse is one of the UK’s foremost dance theatre companies, touring highly acclaimed and award winning productions to theatres and festivals throughout the world. They will be teaming up with Australian aerialist performers Legs On The Wall for this project.

Organisers of The Voyage are looking for your stories which are linked to immigration, heritage, community spirit and people fulfilling their dreams. Please visit the Get Involved page if you’d like to share your stories for the website.
